The story

High school freshman Hotaru Hinase has a vibrant life full of family and friendship, but not much luck in romance. That all changes when she makes a warm gesture to her handsome and heartbroken classmate, Hananoi, leading to him asking her out and her becoming flustered. Witness a girl who grapples with the enigma of love and a boy who is heavy handed with it.

What it’s like

Bright, bouncy shoujo-romance animation with soft pastel school days, clean rounded character designs, and exaggerated expressions that turn a blush or a flustered stammer into a comic beat. The mood is light and sunny with a warm, slightly giddy edge, the kind of show that suits a weekend afternoon, a comfort rewatch, or an easy episode after a long day. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with short comic scenes cutting between classroom chatter, family warmth, and awkward first-crush moments, and the emotional register stays playful rather than heavy. A girl who is fine at everything except love is thrown off balance by a boy who takes romance very seriously, so the arc is one of nervous, slowly growing affection built out of small misunderstandings. Intensity is very low: no violence, no gore, no real danger, and any sexual content is limited to innocent teasing and kissing-level romance. Its gentleness and open, cheerful sweetness suit viewers who want warm, low-stakes comfort, anyone who enjoys first-love comedy, and fans of classic shoujo romance who want something uncomplicated and endearing.
