The story
Amar a Muerte is a Mexican telenovela produced by W Studios for Televisa and originally broadcast on Las Estrellas from October 29, 2018, to March 3, 2019. It is based on the Colombian telenovela En Cuerpo Ajeno, created by Julio Jiménez. The story follows the extraordinary lives of three people whose souls are mysteriously reincarnated into different bodies after their deaths. As they adjust to their new identities, they confront love, revenge, family conflicts, and long-hidden secrets.
What it’s like
Warm studio lighting and bright, saturated interiors give this telenovela the glossy, theatrical polish typical of Televisa's late-2010s productions: sunlit kitchens, lavish living rooms, pastel and jewel-toned costumes, and close-up-heavy framing that keeps faces at the center of every scene. The sound is full and melodramatic, with sweeping orchestral swells, piano stings at each reveal, and dialogue delivered with heightened emotional force. Its vibe is earnest, dramatic and softly fantastical, the kind of show that suits a comfort-watch evening, an after-dinner catch-up, or a weekend stretch when you want big feelings without much effort. Pacing is steady and episodic, with cliffhangers regularly tipping into the next instalment. Emotionally it runs on grief, longing and betrayal, and its central figures move from disorientation toward self-acceptance and reconciliation with the families they left behind. Intensity is moderate: arguments, tears, some threats and a few scenes of peril, but nothing graphic or gory, and romance stays chaste to suppressed. It is for viewers who love romantic melodrama, family drama and a dash of supernatural premise, and who enjoy following characters over many episodes.
