The story

Escape to a deserted island and create your own paradise as you explore, create, and customize in Animal Crossing: New Horizons. Your island getaway has a wealth of natural resources that can be used to craft everything from tools to creature comforts. You can hunt down insects at the crack of dawn, decorate your paradise throughout the day, or enjoy sunset on the beach while fishing in the ocean. The time of day and season match real life, so each day on your island is a chance to check in and find new surprises all year round.

What it’s like

Soft, sun-drenched pastels with rounded, toy-like forms: a sunlit island of sand, palm shade and bright flowers, shifting through real-time dawn, golden afternoons and blue dusk, with rain and snowfall that change the mood of each day. The sound is a gentle loop of ukulele-bright melodies, birdsong, lapping waves and the soft plink of a fish landing in a bucket, and the hands-on rhythm is unhurried: walking, shaking trees, catching bugs with a net, and arranging furniture into little rooms that feel like your own. Its vibe is warm, easygoing and low-stakes, suited to a lazy weekend morning, a daily check-in before bed, or a calm background while doing something else. Intensity is essentially nil: no violence, no fear, no real threat beyond a missed bell or a wilting turnip, and the social side is friendly visiting and gift-swapping rather than conflict. The arcs are gradual, the island slowly filling with homes, friends and seasonal surprises. It suits anyone who wants something gentle and creative, to tidy, decorate, collect and simply potter.
