The story

High school soccer players from across Japan gather for a controversial project designed to create the best — and most egoistic — striker in the world.

What it’s like

Hard-edged anime with a glossy, high-contrast look: bright stadium floodlights against deep night-blue skies, sharp cel-shaded close-ups of sweat and clenched faces, and fast whip-pans that snap between players in a sealed training complex. The palette runs cool blues and steel greys punctuated by saturated flashes of colour whenever someone breaks through, and the sound is driven by pounding electronic and rock score, crowd roars, and the squeak of boots on turf. Pacing is relentless, built around sprint sequences, slow-motion goal replays, and staring-down confrontations, with long stretches of talk-heavy rivalry between ambitious teens. The emotional register is competitive and feverish rather than cozy: intense self-belief, ugly ambition, and grudging respect slowly warping into something like friendship, with characters pushed to reinvent themselves. Intensity is moderate: frequent shouting, bruising tackles, and physical clashes, but no gore and little real cruelty. It suits energetic evenings, weekend binges, or anyone wanting a loud, adrenaline-fuelled sports show that plays like a shounen battle. It is for fans of football, competitive anime, and rivalry-driven teen stories who like their heroes selfish and their pitches electric.
