The story

Alan Shore and Denny Crane lead a brigade of high-priced civil litigators in an upscale Boston law firm in a series focusing on the professional and personal lives of brilliant but often emotionally challenged attorneys. A spin-off of long-running series The Practice.

What it’s like

Bright, warmly lit offices with tall windows, polished wood and leather, and a soft Boston-grey daylight that gives the courtroom and conference rooms a crisp, expensive finish. The camera is mostly steady and conventional, with quick cuts to the talking heads of a wordy ensemble, and the sound is breezy: jaunty piano stingers, the clink of glasses at the firm's bar, and a lot of overlapping dialogue that drives the scenes forward. The mood is cheerful and sharp, with a light comic streak running under courtroom tension, and the tone holds steady across its hour. Its characters are the pleasure here: an outrageous senior partner and a sly, emotionally guarded colleague who gradually reveal softer sides, and an office of colleagues who bicker, flirt, and bluff their way through cases. Intensity is low: some profanity, sexual innuendo and adult talk, the occasional courtroom outburst, and no gore, though the legal cases touch on grief, illness, and injustice without lingering on them. It suits a relaxed evening, a comfort rewatch, or background company while cooking. It is for viewers who enjoy witty banter, eccentric lead performances, and workplace drama that stays buoyant.
