The story
Jang Byeong-tae is a small and weak boy living in Onyang in South Chungcheong Province. He's at the bottom of the school's social ladder and when he transfers to the neighboring Buyeo Agricultural High School, he faces an unexpected incident that becomes a turning point in his life.
What it’s like
Set in provincial South Chungcheong in the 1980s, this is a coming-of-age series that moves between schoolyard humiliation, rural high school life, and the rough hierarchies of teenage gangs. Its mood blends comedy and drama with an action-leaning energy, so the scenes shift quickly from wry, awkward humor to tense confrontation and back. The emotional register is scrappy and underdog-driven, following a small, overlooked boy who must find his footing among tougher peers, and the arc is about gradually earning respect and a sense of belonging. Expect scuffles and schoolyard fights that feel like the central source of tension, with physical conflict that is more punchy than gory; the material touches on delinquency and bullying, so it carries some sting. It suits a weekend binge with friends, or a nostalgic evening for viewers who enjoy period school dramas with a rowdy streak. It is for people who want a lively, character-driven story of underdogs and youthful rivalries rather than something gentle or quiet.
