The story

In the menacing inferno of the old North-American West, Liz is a genuine survivor who is hunted by a vengeful preacher for a crime she didn’t commit.

What it’s like

Harsh, sun-bleached Western landscapes and dust-choked frontier towns, shot with a cold, controlled eye: long takes, deliberate framing and chapter-like structure that lets dread build slowly in wide, desolate spaces. The palette runs to ochre, grey and dried blood, with candlelit interiors and churches lit in shafts of pale, unforgiving light. Sound leans on wind, hoofbeats and a sparse, mournful score, with long stretches of near silence that make each outburst land hard. The mood is bleak and punishing, a sustained unease with little relief, and the pacing is deliberate rather than fast. Intensity is high: rape and sexual violence, graphic brutality, shootings and gore, and the threat of suicide and religious cruelty run through the story, so this is not suited to anyone seeking something gentle. It is for viewers who want a grim, unflinching revenge western with real atmosphere and a dark, moralistic streak.
