The story

Dueling high school debate champs who are at odds on just about everything forge ahead with ambitious plans to get into the colleges of their dreams.

What it’s like

Bright, ordinary school hallways and cramped debate-team rooms set the scene, with the warm, unhurried feel of a teen romance that prefers talk to spectacle. The mood is light and quick-witted, with the bickering rivals' sparring supplying most of the comedy and the slow pull between them supplying the heart. Its rhythm moves between brisk verbal jabs and quieter moments of vulnerability, and its arc follows two rivals who slowly learn to see past their differences and toward a shared ambition. Intensity stays low: there is no real violence, gore, or fear, and the romance stays closer to flirtation and emotional tension than explicit content. Parents and teens who want something gentle, funny, and easy to follow, and anyone who enjoys a rivals-to-something-more story set against college pressure, will find it an easygoing evening's watch, best suited to a relaxed weekend or a comfort-rewatch mood.
