The story
Argentine re-make of American television series Married... with Children. It follows the Argento family and their lives.
What it’s like
Bright, flat studio lighting over a cramped suburban house, with a multi-camera setup that favours wide two-shots and quick cuts to reaction faces, the way a taped sitcom always has. The palette runs to beige walls, faded upholstery and warm yellow kitchen light, and the sound is a laugh track over brisk, bickering dialogue with a jaunty theme tune at the open. It is a comedy with a sharp, sardonic edge: a family that treats each other with contempt and affection in roughly equal measure, the father a lazy, scheming sad sack and the mother more cutting than tender. Episodes move at a fast, punchy clip, each one built around a small domestic scheme that collapses by the end. The tone is broad and cynical rather than warm, and the arcs are mostly stuck in place, which is part of the joke. Language is coarse and the jokes lean on sexual innuendo and insults, with no real violence and no gore. It suits a lazy evening on the couch, a bit of background laughter while cooking, or anyone who enjoys mean-spirited, deadpan family comedy from the Married... with Children lineage.
