The story

Tennis player turned coach Tashi has taken her husband, Art, and transformed him into a world-famous Major champion. To jolt him out of his recent losing streak, she signs him up for a "Challenger" event — close to the lowest level of pro tournament — where he finds himself standing across the net from his former best friend and Tashi's former boyfriend.

What it’s like

Pulsing synth from Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross drives the rallies, while tight handheld close-ups, sweat-slick skin and hot, saturated light make every tennis court feel like a sealed room. The camera stays close on three faces, cutting between a present-day match and a summer decades earlier, so the flashbacks hum with the same charged tension as the game. The vibe is sultry and restless, a competitive heat that tips into desire and resentment. It suits a late night with the sound turned up, or anyone wanting something jittery and adult. The pacing is brisk and talky, with bursts of erotic tension and sexual content, including nudity and a sex scene shown without graphic detail. There is frequent profanity and sharp emotional cruelty, but no real violence beyond the physical strain of sport. The arcs follow three people locked in a shifting triangle of loyalty, ambition and envy. For viewers who want sharp, sensual drama with a propulsive soundtrack and little tenderness.
