The story

When a Jamaican sprinter is disqualified from the Olympic Games, he enlists the help of a dishonored coach to start the first Jamaican bobsled team.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-warmed Jamaican streets give way to snowy alpine slopes in this lighthearted underdog comedy, where the contrast between tropical color and frozen white becomes part of the fun. Its look is classic early-nineties studio polish: broad, sunny frames, easy handheld movement during the sled runs, and a palette that flips from saturated reds, yellows and greens to cold blues and bright white snow. The soundtrack is the main texture, with reggae rhythms threaded through the training montages and a warm, buoyant score that keeps the mood upbeat. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with plenty of comic set pieces between tense, goofy races. The emotional register is warm and uplifting, with a steady arc of a scruffy, disgraced coach slowly reconnecting with purpose alongside a team of earnest outsiders learning to trust each other. Intensity is very low: mild peril on the ice, some slapstick falls, and no violence, gore or sexual content. It suits a relaxed family evening, a comfort rewatch, or anyone wanting feel-good sports fun with a sunny, irreverent heart.
