The story
Crash Team Racing is a kart racing game featuring popular characters from the Crash Bandicoot series. The gameplay is very similar to other kart racing video games like Mario Kart: players have to choose a character and compete against the other racers on various racetracks. The story mode allows you to choose any one of the characters to complete all the main races and beat the ultimate boss Nitrous Oxide. Each of the main races are against 7 other AI competitors with 5 boss races. There are also a few arcade modes up to 4 players.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated cartoon color on tropical islands, sunlit beaches, lush jungle canopies, and mechanical lab interiors, with chunky character models and bouncy, exaggerated animation that reads clearly even at speed. Tracks are packed with loops, shortcuts and wildly colored scenery, and the soundtrack is a jaunty, brassy and synth-tinged loop that lifts the mood. Vibe: sunny, cheeky, lightly chaotic fun. It suits a weekend afternoon, a short burst on your own, or a split-screen session with friends on the sofa, and the pace stays brisk with races that rarely sit still. Intensity is low: the vehicle combat is cartoonish, with weapons that spin, bounce and knock racers off the track, and there is no gore or cruelty, only comic defeat and a mad-scientist villain who is more ridiculous than menacing. Calm enough for a gentle evening, competitive enough for a rival to shout about, and welcoming to anyone who grew up with kart racers or wants a bright, easy-to-pick-up game for all ages.
