The story

The Missing Link is the first and only standalone downloadable episode add-on for Deus Ex: Human Revolution; it explains what happened to Adam Jensen during his three-day disappearance after he left Hengsha a second time.

What it’s like

Hard neon-and-rain cyberpunk seen through cold, blue-tinged night light: rain-slicked streets, sterile corporate interiors lit by harsh white fluorescents, and the amber glow of ventilated industrial spaces. The soundscape is a low synth hum punctuated by the clank of mechanical limbs, distant sirens and muffled radio chatter, with tension carried by silence between footsteps. The mood is isolated, paranoid and quietly melancholy, a dark sci-fi noir that rewards patience and close attention. Its pace is stop-start: stealth creeping through vents and shadows gives way to brief bursts of gunfire, and the story's hard edges come from dialogue-heavy interludes. Violence is present and somewhat stylized, with combat and some lethal takedowns, but there is no gore; sustained tension and body-horror imagery of augmentation carry the unease. Expect dread more than brutality, with occasional sharp violence. Best for players who love systems-driven stealth, moody cyberpunk atmosphere, and a lonely, reflective protagonist, played late at night with headphones on.
