The story
A hard-working lawyer, attached to his cell phone, can't find the time to communicate with his family. An estranged couple uses the internet as a means to escape from their lifeless marriage. A widowed ex-cop struggles to raise a mischievous son who cyber-bullies a classmate. An ambitious journalist sees a career-making story in a teen that performs on an adult-only site. They are strangers, neighbors and colleagues and their stories collide as ordinary people struggling to connect in today's wired world.
What it’s like
Cold blue-grey light off laptop and phone screens fills most of the frames, with interiors kept flat and brightly lit in a way that makes ordinary kitchens and bedrooms feel slightly clinical. The camera drifts between several households in a restless, observational style, cutting often and holding on faces lit by glowing devices, while the sound design leans on notification pings, keyboard clatter and the hum of rooms gone quiet. The score is sparse and tense rather than melodic, so silence between messages carries much of the weight. The vibe is anxious, sober and quietly bleak, with a creeping unease that suits a late-night viewing alone or a serious weekend watch rather than anything casual. Pacing is brisk and interlocking, and the emotional register stays cool and clinical until a few moments of real, painful exposure. Its people move from distraction and isolation toward fragile, hard-won contact, and the film is unsparing about the damage online life can cause. Intensity is significant: there is a suicide, sustained cruelty and cyberbullying, sexual exploitation of a minor on screen-adjacent sites, and tense confrontations, handled with seriousness rather than gore. It suits viewers who want a stern, socially engaged drama about digital life and are ready for something heavy.
