The story

What it’s like
Bright, painted 2D worlds in saturated greens, golden sunlight and jewel-toned fantasy colour, seen from a tilted overhead angle that lets you survey whole villages and forests at once. Its characters are cartoonish and round-faced, and the fights play out on small tactical grids where each move is chosen in turn, with spells and creature sprites bursting in colourful, cheerful flashes rather than anything grim. The soundtrack is light and busy, with bouncy orchestral and folk-tinged themes that loop easily in the background. The feel is warm, playful and unhurried, with long stretches of wandering, gathering and crafting punctuated by battles that are quick and readable. Violence is cartoonish and bloodless, with no gore and no sexual content; the danger is mild and the tone stays friendly throughout. Sessions can be short, on a phone during a commute, or stretched into a long evening on a sofa, and the social layer means you can drop into guild chats, trade, or group up for raids whenever you like. It suits players who want a cosy, sociable fantasy world to tinker in, build a character over months, and sink into at their own pace.
