The story

Follows two of America’s wealthiest families, the Carringtons and the Colbys, as they feud for control over their fortune and their children focusing on Fallon Carrington, the daughter of billionaire Blake Carrington, and her soon-to-be stepmother, Cristal, a Hispanic woman marrying into this WASP family and America’s most powerful class.

What it’s like

Glossy, saturated night-and-day soap, shot in sunlit Atlanta mansions, glass-walled offices, and poolside terraces where warm amber light gives way to cool blue dusk. Costumes and sets do much of the work: sequined gowns, tailored suits, and gleaming marble, with frequent slow pans across tablescapes and sweeping crane shots of the estates. The score leans on swelling strings and pop-tinged cues, and the dialogue crackles with sharp, theatrical put-downs. The vibe is lavish, melodramatic, and bingeable, a guilty-pleasure watch for a weekend evening or a comfort rewatch with a drink in hand. Pacing is brisk, with cliffhanger episode endings and a steady stream of betrayals, reconciliations, and boardroom power plays, while the emotional register stays heightened and camp rather than grounded. Intensity is moderate: frequent verbal cruelty and scheming, some physical scuffles and a few tense confrontations, suggestive romance and sex scenes that stay largely off-screen, and no gore. It suits viewers who want escapist luxury, big emotions, and rival families circling each other, rather than anything gentle or quiet.
