The story

Follow Alex Honnold as he attempts to become the first person to ever free solo climb Yosemite's 3,000 foot high El Capitan wall. With no ropes or safety gear, this would arguably be the greatest feat in rock climbing history.

What it’s like

Vast, sun-bleached granite under hard California daylight, with aerial drone sweeps that make a climber look like a speck on a cliff face and long-lens shots that hold him in stillness against the stone. Quiet, observational texture: close, unobtrusive cameras in cramped van interiors and plain kitchens, and a sparse, pulsing score that swells only at the edges of danger. The pace is patient and methodical, built around preparation, rehearsal and repeated attempts, so the tension accumulates through waiting rather than spectacle. The emotional register is measured and intimate, following a single driven man as he wrestles with fear, focus and the people who worry about him. Intensity is high in suspense but low in gore: the danger is constant and palpable, yet nothing graphic is shown, and any falls are kept off-screen. Suits a focused evening watch, a long-haul flight, or anyone drawn to quiet awe and human nerve. For people who want documentary tension, bright natural landscapes, and a calm, thoughtful portrait of obsession.
