The story

An aging codger named Geri plays a daylong game of chess in the park against himself. Somehow, he begins losing to his livelier opponent. But just when the game's nearly over, Geri manages to turn the tables.

What it’s like

Crisp, early-CG rendering with soft, dappled park light falling through trees, the autumn leaves and worn wooden benches all rendered in a warm, slightly plastic sheen. The camera stays largely still and mid-distance, letting the chessboard and the seated figure of Geri fill the frame while the light drifts across the afternoon. Sound is sparse: a little birdsong, the quiet click of pieces, and a gentle, wistful piano score that lifts into a small, delighted flourish near the end. The vibe is warm, wry and quietly tender, a gentle comedy with a bittersweet undertone that suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a short break, or a comfort watch with coffee. Pacing is unhurried but precise, and the emotional arc is light and affectionate, following an older man's private pleasure and his surprising wit. Entirely gentle, with no violence, no peril and no strong language, just a few moments of mild frustration. Made for viewers who want a short, charming, character-driven animation that is tender without being saccharine.
