The story
The Spengler family returns to where it all started - the iconic New York City firehouse - to team up with the original Ghostbusters, who've developed a top-secret research lab to take busting ghosts to the next level. But when the discovery of an ancient artifact unleashes an evil force, Ghostbusters new and old must join forces to protect their home and save the world from a second Ice Age.
What it’s like
Warm, bright and busy, with the cosy glow of a New York firehouse at night and the cold blue-white sheen of a frozen lab. The camera moves more than in the earlier films, sweeping through crowded streets and tight corridors with a steady, playful energy, while the blue-green ectoplasm and fiery orange-red spectral effects pop against dark city skylines. Sound leans on the familiar proton-pack hum, jaunty orchestral brass and a Halloween-season shimmer, with little silence to speak of. The vibe is nostalgic and light-hearted, a comfortable blockbuster rather than a scary one, suited to a weekend family night, a cosy Halloween watch, or something easy on a long flight. Pacing is brisk, with quick banter and set pieces that keep moving. Emotionally it stays upbeat and affectionate, following a teenage girl stepping into her own among the older heroes and a found family reuniting around a shared legacy. Intensity is mild: comic peril, ghostly creatures and some city-wide destruction, but no gore, little real menace and nothing sexual. It suits fans of the franchise and anyone wanting a playful, low-stakes spectacle with heart.
