The story

When the old-old-old-fashioned vampire Vlad arrives at the hotel for an impromptu family get-together, Hotel Transylvania is in for a collision of supernatural old-school and modern day cool.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated CGI animation with bold cartoon colours: the Transylvanian hotel glows in warm candlelit amber and purple gloom, and its gothic corridors give way to sunny, sherbet-coloured exteriors and a cheerful, scrubbed-clean San Francisco-style setting for the human-adjacent scenes. Camera moves are lively and kinetic, with quick cuts, playful slapstick staging and frequent broad, exaggerated facial expressions, so the frame always feels busy and full. The sound is a pop-leaning orchestral score sprinkled with cartoonish sound effects, and the jokes arrive fast. Vibe: silly, bouncy, warm and easygoing, the kind of family-night fun that suits a Halloween-season afternoon or a lazy weekend with kids. The pacing is brisk and the tone stays gentle throughout, with a light, upbeat register. The emotional arc follows a doting, overprotective father learning to loosen his grip while his grown daughter and her new partner find their own footing, all ending in affectionate reconciliation. Violence is slapstick only: monsters bonk, tumble and get comically flattened, with no gore, no real fear and no sexual content, though some crude or mildly suggestive humour appears. Made for families and anyone wanting cheerful, undemanding, monster-themed animation.
