The story

When a depressed woman is burglarized, she finds a new sense of purpose by tracking down the thieves alongside her obnoxious neighbor. But they soon find themselves dangerously out of their depth against a pack of degenerate criminals.

What it’s like

Flat, overcast suburban daylight, cluttered kitchens, bland strip malls and sagging porches, shot with a restless handheld closeness that makes ordinary rooms feel slightly exposed. The palette is muted, with washed greys and beige interiors broken by sudden spots of red. The soundtrack is sparse and synth-tinged, leaving long stretches of ambient quiet between jittery bursts of action. The vibe is bleakly deadpan: a melancholy sadness that keeps tipping into awkward, mordant comedy, best for a rainy afternoon or a late-night watch when you want something that is funny without being cozy. Pacing is uneven and jolting, with slow, sullen beats giving way to abrupt, messy escalation. Its people are lonely and socially clumsy, and the story follows a withdrawn woman and her abrasive neighbour slowly, reluctantly building a fragile bond. Intensity is high: frequent, sudden and often grisly violence, with blood, gore, vomiting, cruelty and kidnapping, all played for a darkly absurd edge rather than lingering horror. Not gentle. For viewers who like misfit companionship, tonal whiplash and black humour with real bite.
