I Hate Summer

Directed by Massimo Venier

The story

Three families end up in the same rented house. Throughout the summer, they become friends and rediscover how to enjoy life.

What it’s like

Bright, sun-washed Italian coastline shot in wide, easygoing frames, with the heat visible in the light: whites bleached by midday, terraces and pale stone walls, the sea glinting in the background. The mood is light comic warmth with a gentle, slightly rueful edge, the feeling of a holiday that starts badly and gradually loosens up. Scenes move at a brisk, conversational clip, built around bickering houseguests, awkward dinners, and small misadventures in a shared rental, with the comedy coming from character rather than gags. The arcs follow three mismatched adults who begin as strangers, grate on one another, and slowly soften into an unlikely group. Intensity is very low: some mild physical slapstick and raised voices, no violence, no sexual content, nothing frightening. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a family-friendly comfort watch, or a relaxed evening with company, and it's for viewers who want a warm, funny, undemanding summer story about people learning to get along.
