The story

Jericho is an American action/drama series that centers on the residents of the fictional town of Jericho, Kansas, in the aftermath of nuclear attacks on 23 major cities in the contiguous United States.

What it’s like

Washed-out prairie light, dust hanging over dirt roads, and wide, empty fields under heavy overcast skies give this show a sun-bleached, uneasy look. Handheld framing keeps the small-town streets close and unsettled, while the score leans on sparse strings and low drones that swell when the threat arrives. Without power, the nights are lit by lanterns, candles and headlamps, so interiors glow amber against a dark outside. The vibe is somber survival drama with a rural western undertone and a slow mystery running underneath. It suits a rainy weekend or a late evening when you want a story that builds rather than rushes. The pace is deliberate, with long stretches of town politics, family strain and quiet work around the farm, broken by sudden bursts of gunfire and tense standoffs. Violence is real but not gratuitous: shootings and fights are fairly frequent and can be harsh, with some blood, but there is little gore, and the bigger weight is dread, grief and moral compromise. It fits viewers who want an apocalypse told through community and character rather than spectacle, and who can handle a steady undercurrent of danger.
