The story

Drifting through his gap year with its internships and travel plans, Jack has always suspected there was more to life than this. A chance encounter with the beautiful and ethereal Evelyn swerves his life radically off course.

What it’s like

Urban London settings and a restless, unsettled energy run through this coming-of-age romance, which follows a young man at loose ends during a gap year. The mood leans toward wistful drift: days of half-planned internships and vague travel plans, then a sudden shift in tone when a chance meeting pulls him off his expected path. The romance carries a dreamy, slightly unreal quality around its central woman, with the emotional focus on a young man reconsidering what he wants from life. Its pacing suits a relaxed evening or a long, unhurried afternoon rather than a tense night in. The intensity is low: a drama about feelings and choices rather than danger, with no strong indication of graphic violence. It suits viewers who enjoy youthful romance, British coming-of-age stories and character-led drama in which little happens on the surface but a great deal changes beneath it. Also suited to those who like films about big feelings arriving unexpectedly in ordinary days.
