The story
Aan irreverent and outrageous take on true family love‐and dysfunction. Newly sober single mom Christy struggles to raise two children in a world full of temptations and pitfalls. Testing her sobriety is her formerly estranged mother, now back in Christy's life and eager to share passive-aggressive insights into her daughter's many mistakes.
What it’s like
Warm multi-camera sitcom lighting: bright, flat, even interiors with a sun-washed Southern California glow spilling through kitchen windows and onto cluttered living rooms, the sort of set where every surface looks lived-in and slightly sticky. Shot in front of a live audience, it has the laugh-track rhythm of classic network comedy, with quick cuts between two-shots, reaction close-ups, and the occasional pause for a rueful look to camera. The sound is pure sitcom: stage laughter, bright cue-driven theme music, and bickering dialogue that comes fast and overlapping. Vibe: brash, bittersweet, affectionately messy. It suits a weeknight unwind, a comfort rewatch with a drink in hand, or half-attention while folding laundry. The pacing is brisk, with each episode turning over a small domestic crisis that resolves before the credits. Its emotional core is a fraught mother-daughter bond between a newly sober single mom and her sharp-tongued mother, with sincere moments of recovery and repair cutting through the jokes. Intensity is low: crude language, boozy humor, and sexual talk, but no real violence, and the darkness of addiction is played for wry, not harrowing, effect. Made for people who like sharp, adult sitcoms about imperfect families who keep showing up for each other.
