The story

An 18th birthday mushroom trip brings free-spirited Elliott face-to-face with her wisecracking 39-year-old self. But when Elliott’s "old ass" starts handing out warnings about what her younger self should and shouldn't do, Elliott realizes she has to rethink everything about family, love, and what's becoming a transformative summer.

What it’s like

Warm, sun-bleached summer light on a Canadian lake town, with lots of golden hour, soft focus on hazy dusk, and tender close-ups that hold on faces during quiet conversations. The palette leans peach, dusty blue and forest green, and the camera stays mostly handheld and intimate, drifting between the cottage porch, backyard firepit and drifting dock. Its tone is wistful and funny, a cozy coming-of-age comedy with a faint ache underneath, the kind to put on for a lazy summer afternoon or a late-night rewatch with friends. Pacing is easygoing and conversational, with the comedy landing through sharp banter between two versions of the same woman. The emotional arc follows a restless teen learning to see her family, her first real attraction and her own future more clearly, with the older self as a dry, affectionate guide. Intensity is low: some drug-trip haziness, frank talk about sex and sexuality, and mild language, but no violence or gore. For people who want a gentle, funny, heartfelt story about growing up, about first love and about the wisdom you wish you'd had at eighteen.
