The story

In a world where people collect pocket-size monsters (Pokémon) to do battle, a boy comes across an intelligent monster who seeks to be a detective.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated daylight over a Ryme City that feels like a rain-slicked neo-noir set crossed with a toy-box dream: teal and amber neon bleeding across wet streets, sun-warmed plazas, and cluttered detective offices lit by buzzing lamps. Live-action human scenes sit beside fully rendered CGI creatures whose fur and feathers catch every highlight, so the frame keeps tilting between tactile and cartoonish. The score is brassy and playful with synth-pop bounces, and the sound design leans into squeaks, sparks and crowd murmur. Vibe: busy, warm, mildly noir-tinged fun. It suits a weekend afternoon, a comfort rewatch, or a long-haul flight when you want something light but not empty. Pacing is brisk and cheerful, with frequent gags and a steady run of chases and mild peril; the emotional register stays optimistic. Its central arc is a grieving young man slowly reopening himself to a partnership with an unlikely, wisecracking companion. Intensity is low: some car-crash and action-scene jolts, brief comic peril, and no gore or sexual content. For people who want a playful mystery with warmth, creature-world charm and a buddy-comedy heart.
