The story

Join RuPaul, the world's most famous drag queen, as the host, mentor and judge for the ultimate in drag queen competitions. The top drag queens in the U.S. will vie for drag stardom as RuPaul, in full glamazon drag, will reign supreme in all judging and eliminations while helping guide the contestants as they prepare for each challenge.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated studio light does most of the work here: a glossy, high-gloss workroom and runway set in pinks, golds and electric blues, with the camera moving between confessional close-ups, quick handheld backstage scrambles and sweeping wide shots of runway walks. The sound is upbeat and pop-driven, with bass-heavy dance beats, snapping judges' verdicts and the constant clatter of wigs, sewing machines and applause. The vibe is campy, warm and high-energy, with a playful competitive edge that tips into affectionate teasing and the occasional tearful moment of vulnerability. It suits a Friday night with friends, a laugh-out-loud comfort rewatch, or background energy while getting ready. Each episode moves briskly through a challenge, a workroom crunch and a dramatic elimination, and the contestants' arcs tend to follow self-belief growing under pressure. Intensity is low: there is mild innuendo and adult humour, some sexual talk and bitchy put-downs, but no violence and nothing frightening. It is for people who want glamour, wit and big personalities in a joyful, uplifting package.
