The story
Tales speak of an ancient land where creatures the size of mountains, roam the majestic landscape. Bound to the land, these creatures hold a key to a mystical power of revival - a power you must obtain to waken a loved one. Shadow of the Colossus is a majestic journey through ancient lands to seek out and destroy gigantic mythical beasts. With your trusty horse at your side, explore the spacious lands and unearth each Colossi. Armed with your wits, a sword and a bow, use cunning and strategy to topple each behemoth. A remake of the critically-claimed game of the same title. Also from the minds that brought you The Last Guardian & ICO
What it’s like
Vast, sun-bleached highland under pale, hazy skies, with the grass rolling in long silver waves and the light thinning toward dusk until the land turns to amber and violet. The palette is muted and earthy, broken only by the glow of ancient ruins and the dull shimmer of the colossi's hides. Camera sits wide and patient behind a small rider on a horse, so the scale of each giant dwarfs everything around it. Music is sparse: a solitary melodic line and long stretches of wind and hoofbeats, with the score swelling only at the moments of climb and confrontation. The pace is deliberate, with long rides across empty ground punctuated by tense, puzzle-like duels in which you clamber over enormous bodies while they thrash to shake you off. Tone is melancholy and reverent, a quiet grief running under the awe, and the story's arc traces a lonely devotion that grows heavier with each fallen beast. Intensity is moderate: the creatures are huge and the fights are tense and physical, with some sudden violence and a bleak, somber undertone, but there is no gore or sexual content. It suits a long, unhurried evening alone, for players who love atmosphere, sweeping landscapes and a wistful, contemplative mood.
