The story
Amane lives alone in an apartment, and the most beautiful girl in school, Mahiru, lives just next door. They've almost never spoken—until the day he sees her in distress on a rainy day and lends her his umbrella. To return the favour, she offers him help around the house, and a relationship slowly begins to blossom as the distance between them closes…
What it’s like
Soft pastel animation with clean, rounded character designs and warm interior light: kitchens and apartment hallways glowing in lamplight, rain streaking grey-blue windows, afternoon sun falling across tatami and tabletops. The palette leans gentle and sugary, with frequent close-ups on faces and small domestic gestures, and the sound design is airy piano and light strings that swell during tender beats and drop out for quiet domestic moments like rice cooking or a kettle clicking off. The pacing is unhurried and episodic, built from ordinary days, awkward exchanges and blushing silences, and the emotional register is sweet, teasing and earnest, with a lonely, self-doubting young man slowly learning to be cared for. Intensity is very low: romantic tension and light fan-service-adjacent comedy, but no violence, horror or cruelty. It suits a rainy Sunday, a comfort rewatch, or something to half-watch while cooking, and it is for viewers who want a warm, low-stakes romance with cozy domestic textures and a gentle, lovingly rendered sense of closeness.
