The story

Mr Wolf gets together a band of former bad guys to do good deeds. There's Mr Wolf, Mr Snake, Mr Shark and Mr Piranha. They start by rescuing a kitten stuck up a tree and then head for the bigger challenge of liberating an entire pound of dogs. Success is guaranteed as long as they don't squabble too much and they don't eat each other or scare the animals they are rescuing to death. Humorous and clever series. ---------- ###German-language description: Mr Wolf. Mr Shark. Mr Piranha. Mr Snake.

What it’s like

Bright, bold cartoon panels with flat primary colours, thick black outlines and comic-book sound effects bursting across the page, the kind of graphic-novel-style layout where a single spread can hold a dozen quick gags. The prose is short, punchy and conversational, with a wry, deadpan narrator who keeps the energy snappy and the jokes landing fast. Its vibe is scrappy, cheeky and warm: mischief with a soft heart, the feel of a silly caper read aloud on a lazy afternoon or during a bedtime reading slot. Pacing is brisk, each short chapter ending on a small cliffhanger, and the emotional arc follows four outcasts gradually discovering that being loved feels better than being feared. Intensity is very low: slapstick peril, cartoon mishaps and a bit of mild jeopardy, with no real gore or cruelty and nothing frightening beyond a playful scare. Suited to young readers aged six to nine, reluctant readers, and grown-ups who enjoy witty, gently subversive children's comedy.
