The story

An epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo makes an unlikely human friend.

What it’s like

Sweeping Pixar landscapes of rivers, canyons, and open plains in saturated golden-hour light, with gorgeous rendered mud, rain, and wind-blown grass that feel almost tactile. The palette runs from warm ochre and sunset orange to cool blue storm skies, and the camera often pulls back to show small figures dwarfed by enormous, empty country. Score is orchestral and tender, swelling in the big set pieces and falling quiet around the gentle moments between the leads. Its vibe is wide-open, earnest warmth with a thread of unease, well suited to a family movie night, a lazy afternoon, or a comfort watch with kids. The pacing is episodic and road-trip-like, with scares built on storms, fast rivers, and predators that stay brief rather than brutal. The emotional register is sincere and hopeful, following a timid young dinosaur growing braver through fear and an unlikely bond with a wild human boy. Intensity is mild: peril, a few sudden jolts, some tense chases, and a sad stretch about loss, but no gore and little real violence. It is for families with younger children, and for adults who want a gentle, scenic adventure about courage and kinship.
