The story

A lawless poacher wants to capture a majestic and rare golden eagle, so he kidnaps the boy who knows where to find the bird. Not to worry -- the Rescue Aid Society's top agents, heroic mice Miss Bianca and Bernard, fly to Australia to save the day. Accompanying the fearless duo are bumbling albatross Wilbur and local field operative Jake the Kangaroo Rat.

What it’s like

Hand-drawn animation in saturated, sun-warmed color: rust-red gorges, eucalyptus blue skies, dusky swamps lit green and amber at dusk, and wide sweeping aerial shots of the outback that give the film a sense of open, sunburnt space. The camera swoops and banks with the flying characters, so the pace feels brisk and playful, with bright slapstick and lush, cartoonish set pieces. Sound leans on a bouncy orchestral score and sing-along songs with an easygoing Australian flavor, and there is plenty of chatter and comic bluster. The mood is adventurous and warm, a Saturday-morning cartoon energy suited to a family movie night or a nostalgic rewatch. Intensity stays mild: a poacher and a kidnapping drive the stakes, and there are tense moments with predatory creatures and a menacing villain, but no gore and little real cruelty, and the peril resolves quickly into comfort. Best for families with younger children, and for adults who want an upbeat, colorful escape with a touch of suspense.
