The story
Follow four college roommates as they arrive at New England's prestigious Essex College. A bundle of contradictions and hormones, these girls are equal parts lovable and infuriating as they live out their new, free lives on campus.
What it’s like
Bright, sun-washed daylight through dorm windows, saturated warm colors in cramped shared rooms, and a brisk handheld camera that lingers on half-unpacked boxes, late-night dining halls, and the autumn foliage of a Vermont campus. The palette leans toward pastel pinks and tangerine with glossy digital sharpness, and the soundtrack is peppy pop and needle-drop indie that keeps the pace bouncy. Scenes move quickly, with sharp, rapid-fire banter, frequent cuts between roommates, and occasional direct-to-camera asides that puncture the fourth wall. The tone is comic and affectionate with a steady undercurrent of earnest, messy growing-up, sliding between giddy and anxious as the four friends fumble through romance, identity and hookups without much real danger. Sex is frank and frequent, shown in brief, often awkward or comic scenes with partial nudity but no graphic detail, and there is some heavy drinking, sharp insults and emotional blowups, with no real violence. It suits a lazy weekend binge, a comfort watch with friends, or a scroll-along evening, and it's for viewers who enjoy a candid, funny, loosely connected ensemble about young women finding their footing.
