The story
I Corti ("Shorts") by Aldo, Giovanni & Giacomo was the first stage show of the comedy trio, with the participation of Marina Massironi. It was recorded live at the Teatro Nuovo in Ferrara on 28 and 29 March 1996. Produced by Agidi, with the theatre direction of Arturo Brachetti.
What it’s like
Filmed in a real theatre before a live audience, this has the warm, unpolished look of stage comedy captured straight: a steady, mostly fixed view of a proscenium stage under bright theatrical lighting, with spotlights against a dark backdrop and the hum and sudden roar of a crowd that is clearly in on every beat. Sound is at the centre, with spoken sketches, quick exchanges and laughter rolling over the top of each punchline. Pacing comes in short bursts, one brief piece after another, with blackouts and costume changes that give each sketch its own shape and a moment of breath before the next. The tone is playful, absurd and affectionate, the energy of three friends who know each other's timing well, with a fourth performer joining some of the material. The humour is verbal and physical, broad and bright, with little that is dark, violent or frightening, so it sits easily as a light, low-stakes evening. It suits people who enjoy vintage Italian sketch comedy, live-recorded stage performance, and ensemble play where the pleasure lies in watching performers clearly enjoy themselves.
