The story
The Swapper is a short puzzle platformer where you must complete every puzzle and collect 124 orbs, in groups of 3 and 9 later on, to complete the game. The game has a tool which lets you create up to 4 clones and switch between them as long as you have a clear line of sight. The main obstacles for the puzzles are 3 kinds of lights that interfere with the tool in different ways to make the puzzles harder. Achievements/Trophies are tied to hidden consoles instead of story progress so a guide will most likely be needed to find all 10.
What it’s like
Clay-textured figures and sets with the faint seams of stop-motion, lit by cold blue-grey light that flares into glowing green and orange where the puzzle tools and light beams hit. Long stretches of abandoned metal corridors and vast dim chambers are filled with a slow, hollow ambient score and the hum of machinery, with the odd drip of steam and a sparse, measured voice. The mood is isolated and contemplative, a patient sci-fi mystery that feels like sitting alone in an empty station late at night. Pacing is deliberate: each room is a careful pause to think, move a clone, and watch the light shift, with death arriving as a brief, quiet reset rather than spectacle. Its emotional register is wistful and slightly uneasy, following a lone explorer who gradually uncovers why the place was left behind. Intensity is low: there is no combat and no gore, only falls, lasers and occasional eerie silences that can startle without ever turning violent. It suits a quiet evening with headphones, a puzzle-minded player who enjoys thinking over reflexes, and anyone who wants an unhurried, moody game with a hushed sense of wonder.
