The story
Wandersong takes you on a whimsical, musical journey across the globe. Eons ago, the goddess Eya put the universe into motion with her music--now, as she does every epoch or so, she's going to sing a new song and reset existence. You play as a lowly bard tasked with finding the pieces of a mysterious melody called the Earthsong, which is said to be able to preserve the planet. Use your singing to help characters, solve puzzles, and save the world!
What it’s like
Bright, hand-painted watercolour backdrops and chunky cartoon sprites give this side-scroller a storybook sheen, with saturated greens, sea blues and sunset oranges shifting from one stage to the next. Pirate coves, witch huts and sleepy villages are drawn with a cheerful, wobbly warmth, and the whole thing moves at a gentle pace, punctuated by small, funny exchanges between characters. The soundtrack is the centrepiece: the hero's singing is sampled, layered and echoed into the surroundings, so each puzzle feels like tuning a little music box, and the score leans folk, whimsical and bouncy with the occasional wistful lull. Its emotional register is warm and playful, with a quiet undercurrent of worry about the world ending, though the mood stays light; a self-doubting bard slowly finds courage and belonging among the people he helps. Intensity is very low: there is no gore or real violence, only the odd mild peril and comic mischief. It suits a lazy afternoon with headphones, a comfort play on a grey day, or a calm evening of gentle problem-solving. It is made for people who want something sweet, musical and easy to sink into.
