The story

American Daphne Reynolds heads to Europe in search of the father she's never met. But instead of finding a British version of her boho mother, she learns the love of her mom's life is an uptight politician. The only problem now is that her long-lost father is engaged to a fiercely territorial social climber with a daughter who makes Daphne's life miserable.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated teen-comedy polish: sunny Stateside colour that gives way to the cooler, greyer palette of London, with pastel party dresses, Union Jack flourishes and sleek, politically tinted interiors. The camera stays mostly conventional and well-lit, favouring tidy medium shots, easy two-shots at breakfast tables and bustling wide shots of Westminster streets and country-house gardens, while the score is bouncy pop and orchestral swells that signal every emotional beat. Vibe: sunny, warm and giddily light, with a mild culture-clash bite. It suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a comfort rewatch, or a long-haul flight when you want something cheerful. Pacing is brisk and episodic, the mood reliably upbeat with a few pinches of sharp satire around the campaign trail and the paparazzi. The central arc is a teenage girl learning to meet a father she never knew, while he slowly softens toward her and her wary stepsister-to-be. Intensity is very low: a bit of teen peevishness and some mocking cruelty between characters, but no violence, no gore, and only light romance with a kiss or two. Made for people who want a gentle, funny, feel-good story with a warm heart and no real danger.
