The story

Altruistic Jane finds herself facing her worst nightmare as her younger sister announces her engagement to the man Jane secretly adores.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated studio romcom palette: pastel bridesmaid gowns, cream and rose wedding interiors, glossy daylight that feels like a Saturday in June, and plenty of wide, cheerful establishing shots of Manhattan streets and sunny event spaces. The camera stays conventional and tidy, with lots of medium two-shots and punchy cuts timed to jokes, and the score is bouncy pop and upbeat guitar that keeps things light even in the awkward moments. The vibe is warm, breezy and a little giddy, with a bit of sweet sting underneath, the kind of film that suits a lazy weekend afternoon, a comfort rewatch with friends, or a light evening after a long week. Pacing is brisk and predictable in the best way, and the emotional register stays playful, following a generous, overworked woman who keeps putting others first and slowly learns to want something for herself. Intensity is very low: some mild profanity, a few suggestive gags and kissing, a drunken scene or two, and no real violence, gore or cruelty. It is for people who want a gentle, funny, feel-good romance with a lot of heart and nothing heavy.
