The story
90210 revolves around several students at the fictional West Beverly Hills High School, including new Beverly Hills residents Annie Wilson and Dixon Wilson. Their father, Harry Wilson, has returned from Kansas to his Beverly Hills childhood home with his family to care for his mother, former television and theater actress Tabitha Wilson, who has a drinking problem and clashes with his wife Debbie Wilson. Annie and Dixon struggle to adjust to their new lives while making friends and yet adhering to their parents' wishes.
What it’s like
Bright, sun-saturated Southern California daylight gives this teen drama its look: wide establishing shots of palm-lined boulevards, pastel-toned mansions, poolside afternoons and glossy high-school hallways, all filmed with a clean, polished digital sheen. The camera moves freely, with quick cuts, phone-screen inserts and warm close-ups in cafés and bedrooms, and the score leans on upbeat pop and tender acoustic cues that shift into a wistful hum during quieter scenes. The vibe is breezy and soap-bright with an undertow of family friction, the kind of show best suited to a lazy weekend afternoon, a long-haul flight, or background viewing while getting ready for a night out. Its pace is brisk and episodic, with each week stacking romance, rivalry and parental tension, and its emotional register stays earnest and melodramatic rather than heavy. The people's arcs trace teenagers finding footing in an unfamiliar, affluent world while a returning family wrestles with old wounds. Intensity is mild: some drinking, arguments, sexual tension and teen-drama peril, with no graphic violence and little that feels frightening. It suits viewers who want glossy, comfortable drama about friendship, first loves and family loyalty.
