The story

16-year-old Lux was given up for adoption at birth but never adopted. When she is put back into the custody of her estranged-since-high-school birth parents, Cate and Baze, the three form an unlikely family.

What it’s like

Warm, slightly rough-edged family drama with the look of a mid-2010s CW series: bright, mostly daylight interiors, kitchens and small Pacific Northwest houses lit by soft window light, with handheld-leaning camera work that stays close to the characters during arguments and quiet moments alike. The palette runs to muted blues, weathered wood and faded denim, with occasional rainy streets and cramped rooms that feel lived in. The score is typical teen-drama fare: acoustic guitar, indie-pop needle drops and swelling strings at emotional beats. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with each hour built around a small crisis that pulls the three leads closer together. Tone is earnest, humorous and tender, with teenage angst and family chaos running alongside real grief about being given up and a parent's long absence. The emotional arc is a teenage girl and two reluctant adults slowly learning to trust each other as a family. Intensity is low: some profanity, teen drinking, and romantic and sexual themes handled discreetly, with no graphic violence or gore. Suits a comfort rewatch, a relaxed weekend binge, or easy evening viewing for anyone who enjoys family-focused teen drama about second chances and imperfect parents.
