The story

Five people travelling by camper crash into a tree. When they recover, the road they were driving on has been replaced by an impenetrable forest and a wooden house.

What it’s like

Dense, sunlit woodland and cramped camper-van interiors give this Italian horror its look, with green-filtered daylight through the trees and warm, close handheld framing that keeps the characters pressed together. The mood is uneasy and cult-flavoured, a mix of folkloric eeriness and self-aware genre play, with a score that swells and drops away to leave room for bursts of noise. Pacing is restless. It moves between tense standoffs and abrupt shifts in tone, and its people are a group of strangers whose bickering and fear harden into something darker as they grasp that they cannot leave. Intensity is high: the violence is frequent and graphic, with gore and bodily horror, including disturbing material around pregnancy, and a few sexual scenes. It lands as shocking and nasty rather than suspenseful alone. This suits viewers who want an unsettling, blood-soaked night in with a clever, layered twist, and it is wrong for anyone looking for something gentle or light.
