The story

Goofy’s teenage son Max is desperate to impress his crush and fit in at school. After well-meaning but ignorant Goofy suddenly whisks him away on a cross-country road trip—messing up Max’s first date plans in the process—Goofy’s old-school parenting and Max’s desire for independence lead to a vacation of hilarious mishaps, as they both learn to see eye to eye and listen to each other.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated hand-drawn cel animation with flat cartoon colour, bold outlines and the warm sun-washed yellows and blues of mid-nineties Disney, shifting into wide open highway vistas, motel neon and a dusty rolling landscape as the road trip unrolls. The frames are lively and busy, with exaggerated slapstick timing, quick cuts and a pop-soundtrack energy: synth-driven teen pop numbers, bouncy show tunes and a full musical streak that lets the songs carry emotion between the gags. The vibe is goofy, sunny and sweetly nostalgic, a comfort rewatch for a lazy afternoon or a family movie night, with plenty of pratfalls and cartoon physical comedy. Emotional stakes stay light and easy to hold: a father and teenage son with mismatched styles of love slowly learning to listen to each other, with a crush and a pop-star subplot adding small teen-romance flutters. The intensity is mild, with cartoon slapstick, brief peril and no real violence, gore or sexual content. It suits families, parents who grew up with the film, and anyone who wants a gentle, funny, warm-hearted animated road trip.
