The story

Amy, a naive college graduate who believes she's destined to be a great poet, begrudgingly accepts a job at a sex shop while she pursues a mentorship with reclusive writer Rat Billings.

What it’s like

Soft, unhurried indie comedy light: sunny suburban afternoons, dim cluttered interiors of a novelty shop with pink and purple glow, and a lot of handheld close framing on a young woman's face as she works through her small humiliations. The palette is warm and slightly faded, the kind of everyday Americana that feels a little sun-bleached, and the score leans on acoustic guitar and light pop that keeps the mood breezy even when things turn awkward. Scenes tend to hold on quiet pauses and deadpan reactions, so the comedy lands in glances and pauses more than in gags. The vibe is wry, bittersweet and low-stakes, with a streak of gentle embarrassment that suits a lazy weekend afternoon or a comfort watch when you want something light with some heart. Sexual content is present through the shop setting and dialogue, but it is verbal and comic rather than explicit, and violence is minimal. The arcs follow a idealistic, floundering young person slowly learning to be less precious about her ambitions and to see the people around her more clearly. It is made for viewers who enjoy quirky, character-driven comedies about post-college drift and fumbling hero worship.
