The story
Esther and Benji are platonic best friends who want nothing more than to be accepted by the vain and status-obsessed culture of Los Angeles. Despite their sometimes contentious relationship, when push comes to shove, they’ve got each other’s back … And they have nobody else to hang out with.
What it’s like
Bright, flat Los Angeles daylight and sun-washed streets, with the handheld, half-improvised look of a web sitcom: quick cuts, awkward pauses left in, apartments and bars that feel lived-in rather than styled. The palette leans on pastels, pool-blue and beige, and the soundtrack is light pop and cheerful incidental music that undercuts the characters' self-importance. The vibe is breezy, cringe-comic and scrappy, with a streak of affectionate sadness about two people trying hard to belong. It suits a lazy afternoon, a bit of background laughter while doing chores, or a short binge on a phone or laptop. Pacing is brisk and episodes are short, and the emotional register stays comic: the arc is two prickly, insecure friends bickering their way toward loyalty, with ambition and social climbing played for laughs. Intensity is low: crude jokes, some sexual innuendo and drinking, mild profanity, and no violence or gore. It is for people who want an easy, irreverent comedy about friendship and Hollywood-adjacent vanity, and who enjoy cringe humour more than sweetness.
