The story
In order to wipe out the Gaulish village by any means necessary, Caesar plans to absorb the villagers into Roman culture by having an estate built next to the village to start a new Roman colony.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated 3D animation with sun-washed Mediterranean colour: terracotta roofs, sky-blue shadows, bronze armour catching hard summer light, and a lot of busy, cartoonish crowd detail in the Roman city scenes. The camera moves briskly through wide establishing shots and cheerful set-piece gags, while the Gaulish village stays warm, earthy and familiar. The score is brassy and bouncy, with stirring marching music and playful percussion that keeps the mood light. The vibe is jovial and cheeky, a sunny Saturday-afternoon comedy with a family-friendly energy that suits a weekend watch with kids or a relaxed evening with popcorn. Pacing is fast and episodic, built around slapstick, running jokes and food-loving banter, with the arc of a gruff, proud village slowly learning to meet its neighbours on its own terms. Intensity is low: cartoon fights full of bonks, tumbles and exaggerated fisticuffs, with no gore and no real menace. It is for families and anyone wanting a gentle, funny adventure with no real scares.
