The story

In an American desert town circa 1955, the itinerary of a Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention is spectacularly disrupted by world-changing events.

What it’s like

Symmetrical pastel compositions in saturated desert light: a sun-bleached mesa town rendered in dusty ochre, mint, and powder-pink, with every shot framed like a stage set and characters walking in precise, deadpan lines across the frame. Camera movement is minimal, with long tableau-style static takes and sudden cutaways that feel like pages turning in a storybook. The score is a light, plucked and chamber-pop mix that sits under dry, clipped dialogue, and the rhythm is brisk and absurdist, punctuated by sudden stillness and quiet grief. The vibe is wry, melancholic whimsy, a dreamy mid-century puzzle box that suits a slow weekend afternoon or a playful rewatch. Intensity is low: there is no gore and little violence, though one sudden, abrupt disruption carries an undercurrent of unease and loss. Emotionally it follows a widowed father and a cluster of grieving, awkward strangers slowly opening up. It is for people who love meticulous visual design, dry humour, and tender, understated feeling.
