- comedy
The story
Franck and his girlfriend Sonya, plus some of their friends go on holiday in Brazil. Franck, his friends, two girls and Sonya's grandmother leave to visit a cave, but everything goes wrong and their crazy adventures begin.
What it’s like
Bright, broad French studio comedy lit in flat, even daylight, with the sun-bleached glare of a Brazilian holiday: white sand, turquoise water, hotel pools and open-air restaurants shot in wide, unfussy frames that let the actors mug in the middle of the shot. The camera stays mostly conventional and static, with quick cuts for gags and a few handheld bursts when the chaos escalates through jungle and cave passages, which are dim, damp and lit by torches and tight beams of light. The soundtrack is pop-leaning and upbeat, with comic stingers and sound effects doing much of the punchline work. Vibe: silly, sun-soaked, slapstick chaos. It suits a lazy afternoon, a group watch with friends, or a light night in when you want to laugh without thinking. Pacing is brisk, with set-pieces stacked one after another, and the tone stays cheerful and farcical, with the arc following a nervous man who keeps trying to hold a holiday together as it falls apart. Intensity is low: comic peril, a lot of physical pratfalls and messy mishaps, some crude humour and sexual innuendo, and no real gore or cruelty. It is for people who want a rowdy, good-natured comedy in a sunny setting.
