The story

A pampered Beverly Hills chihuahua named Chloe who, while on vacation in Mexico with her owner Viv's niece, Rachel, gets lost and must rely on her friends to help her get back home before she is caught by a dognapper who wants to ransom her.

What it’s like

Bright, saturated sunshine on Los Angeles mansions and then the dusty ochre of a Mexican village, a palette that shifts from pastel poolside gloss to warm sun-baked earth as the story moves south. Its camera is busy but friendly: quick cuts, playful low-angle shots at dog height, and wide establishing views of sprawling Mexican landscapes and crowded markets that feel bustling rather than threatening. The score is bouncy and orchestral with mariachi flourishes, and the dogs' voices are a constant comic chatter. This is a family comedy with a light, cheerful pace and a sweet, low-stakes emotional register, where a spoiled pet learns humility and a found family forms along the way. Gentle slapstick, a dognapping plot with a bumbling villain, and a few mild peril beats give it some tension, but there is no real violence, gore, or sexual content, and the scariest moments are brief and quickly defused. Good for a lazy weekend with kids, a comfort rewatch on a sick day, or anyone wanting something warm, silly and sunny with a big-hearted ending.
