The story
When a professor develops a vaccine that eliminates human allergies to dogs, he unwittingly upsets the fragile balance of power between cats and dogs and touches off an epic battle for pet supremacy. The fur flies as the feline faction, led by Mr. Tinkles, squares off against wide-eyed puppy Lou and his canine cohorts.
What it’s like
Bright, saturated suburban daylight, with sunny backyards, cluttered kitchens and a glossy studio-lit sheen that makes every fur coat and plastic toy pop. Camera work is brisk and playful, with quick cuts, swooping crane moves and a lot of low-angle shots that put us at pet height during the chases and fights. Sound leans on a bouncy orchestral score, slapstick sound effects and the chatter of talking animals, all cheerfully overplayed. The vibe is bright, silly and warm, the sort of thing you put on for a lazy Saturday afternoon, a family movie night or background comfort while doing chores. Pacing is brisk and episodic, with the emotional throughline a gentle one about an uncertain puppy finding courage and belonging, and a hapless human scientist learning to trust the animals around him. Intensity is mild: cartoonish martial-arts scuffles, pratfalls and playful mock-villainy, with no gore and no real menace. It suits young children, families and anyone wanting something light, funny and gently action-packed with no real fear.
